9/27/23 - Letter from His Grace, Mar Paulus, to the Diocese reverend fathers and servant committees:
Rev. Fathers, Mutwa members, and Parish Committees:
Greetings in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ!
I pray this email finds you all well. Unfortunately, I am writing to you all today regarding the accidental fire that broke out in one of the cities of the Nineveh Plains, particularly, Baghdehdeh. With sources noting over 100 deaths and many other injured, we pray for the souls of the departed and for healing of those injured by this great tragedy.
As the bishop of the diocese, I am requesting that this upcoming Sunday, October 1, 2023, the Divine Liturgy will be celebrated in memory of the departed, injured, and their families. An announcement in Assyrian will be sent to the priests, as soon as possible.
In addition to the memorial, I would like each parish to designate at least one person to collect donations for ACERO on Sunday. ACERO-USA has begun an official campaign to collect donations for the victims and their families.
If there are further announcements, you will be notified in due time.
God bless,
+Paulus Benjamin

Hello Supporter, below is from the acero.org monthly newsletter.
In the November edition:
It is with profound joy we share with you photos of the stunning newly restored Mart Maryam (St Mary’s) Church in Arzni, Armenia!
As part of our Armenia Appeal, this 200 year-old church has been extended and refurbished. The building of the Marganita Kindergarten and this restoration project are testament to the incredible things we can achieve with your invaluable support.
We are SO grateful to our donors. In December 2019, we commenced work on the church and you can see below some photos of the condition of the Church before.
The pandemic halted works until September 2020. Since then, with Qasha Nikademus Yukhanaev overseeing the team on the ground, they have worked tirelessly to try and complete it in time for Christmas services.
To help us complete our projects in Armenia you can donate to the Armenia Appeal by visiting our Donate page. The third and final phase of our building work in Armenia is the Community Centre in Dvin.

ACERO has sponsored youth programmes, college students and distributed food parcels and aid to families facing economic hardship in Assyrian villages in the North of Iraq. These youth initiatives and sponsorships serve over 100 young people living in these villages.
Throughout Holy Week, for the Feast of the Resurrection and the weeks that followed, ACERO hosted children’s parties, sponsored college students to support their studies and delivered essential aid packages to families across the villages of Diana, Hawdian and Bedyal.
From its inception, ACERO has always worked closely with parish priests of the Assyrian Church of the East to assist the needy, the vulnerable and our youth living our Assyrian Homeland, Iraq.
This remains true today. Qasha Yonan Yatron, parish priest of the church of Mar Gewargis in Diana has worked with us for many years to carry out this important work. Our thanks go to him and his volunteers for their support, hard work and commitment.
We ask the Lord Jesus Christ to keep you and your good works…and enlighten your path in your service of of our Assyrian nation and out Church.

The Dohuk Housing Complex has, for 12 years, provided housing for needy families.
Built in 2009 with the sponsorship of our long time partners, Barnabas Fund, the complex comprises five buildings and portable cabins, all of which house 50 families, rent free. It is also home to a mini-market for residents to purchase essentials and a hall for small gatherings.
The complex remains a constant hub of activity, from administering food and financial aid distributions and hosting children’s festive parties to sheltering displaced persons during the Mosul crisis of 2014. It is an invaluable asset to our organisation. Under the stewardship of Mr Odeesho Dawood and his team, the complex is the head office for our Iraq Chapter.

On Sunday 3rd October 2021, under the glistening Nohadra sun, His Holiness Mar Awa III, the 122nd Catholicos-Patriarch of our Church, graced the residents with his presence. Accompanying His Holiness was ACERO’s Chairman, His Grace Mar Afram Athneil, ACERO Trustee His Grace Mar Paulus Benjamin, His Grace Mar Isaac Yousip, Bishop of Nohadra and Russia and His Grace Mar Abrs Youkhannan, Bishop of Kirkuk and Diana and Patriarchal Auxiliary. Welcomed by children adorned in traditional Assyrian clothing and the rippling sound of applause and cheers, His Holiness made his way into the buildings.

His Grace Mar Afram addressed the residents and thanked His Holiness for their visit. His Holiness, a founding Trustee of our Organisation, expressed their joy at visiting the complex for the first time and spoke of their hope for more projects to be developed for Assyrians living in the homeland. The delegation then proceeded to the offices inside the complex, where they offered prayers of thanksgiving and discussed future projects.
It was a day the volunteers, committees, trustees, and residents will never forget. We are grateful to His Holiness Mar Awa III and His Grace Mar Afram for their unwavering leadership of ACERO and all our prelates for their support.

Rev Fr. Nikademus Yukhanev, in his correspondence to ACERO
Rev Fr Nikademus is the Priest of the Assyrian Church of the East in Armenia. We have worked closely with him for 4 years now on projects in the country.
The Community Center in Dvin forms part of the third phase of ACERO’s ‘Armenia Appeal‘ – an initiative launched in 2019 committed to investing in the Assyrian community infrastructure to ensure the continuity of the country’s historic Assyrian inhabitants.
On 27th October 2019, the foundation stone for the Community Center was laid by His Holiness Mar Awa III (then His Grace Mar Awa Royel) along with Prelates, dignitaries and ACERO Secretary Andy Darmoo.

In the face of the pandemic, financial hardship and the war in Eastern Europe, we have still, by the grace of God, been able to move forward with the building work on the Center. The structure of the building, roof, windows, water system and wiring have all now been completed.

The Center will have a fully fitted kitchen and bathrooms and will be fully furnished with tables, chairs and a sound system. There is still work to be done and with the help of God we hope to complete the Center in the coming months.

At the heart of every Church are its youth and here at ACERO we make sponsoring education programmes and Bible Study a priority too. We were proud to assist Rev Fr. Gewargis Yosip, the parish priest in Kirkuk, in buying supplies and funding ongoing youth and bible study programmes at his parish. 120 children aged between 4-16 now attend Bible Study, youth activities and language studies every Friday at the Parish. We are grateful to His Grace Mar Abrs Youkhanna, Bishop of Kirkuk and Diana and Rev Fr Gewargis Yosip for spearheading these projects and working with us to bring to fruition.

***NEWLY BUILT CHAPEL AT OUR DOHUK HOUSING COMPLEX***
A Report from ACERO headquarters - London, UK
Our Dohuk Housing Complex is now home to a place of worship for our residents and Christians in the immediate surrounding area.
With the generosity, guidance and cooperation of His Grace Mar Isaac Yousif, Bishop of Nohadra, our Iraqi Chapter members have now built a chapel for liturgical services, Holy Eucharist and daily prayer inside building 5 of the ACERO Housing Complex.
This has been a long time wish of the ACERO Board and they take this opportunity to express their gratitude to His Grace Mar Isaac for his donation of this chapel to the residents of the Housing Complex. His Grace will, in the coming weeks, offer prayers to consecrate the altar at the chapel, which will be named on the same day.
Our sincerest thanks also to Mr Jan Benjamin and his team for all the building work - the carpentry, painting, installations and finishing.
We take this opportunity to wish you all a blessed Palm Sunday, God bless you all
We have an urgent need to help our fellow Assyrian (Christians) refugees from Ukraine.

**MART MARYAM CHURCH, ARMENIA - FURNITURE AND UTILITIES NOW INSTALLED!**
We continue to report on developments from our Armenia Appeal!
Phase 2 of the project, as you may know, is the renovation of this stunning, ancient church of Mart Maryam, her blessings be upon you all.
In 2021, the residents of Arzni were able, for the first time in many many years, to celebrate Christmas midnight mass as a result of your generosity. Now, we are delighted to report that the church has new pews, gas and electricity installed to ensure the comfort and safety of all the parishioners.
Our Armenia Appeal has been met with the most incredible response by our donors, partners and clergy on the ACERO Board of Trustees. For this, we are eternally grateful. Please continue to support the Appeal which will culminate in Phase 3 of a building of a large community centre in Dvin.
Armenia Appeal - launched in 2019 the Armenia Appeal is a three-phase building, educational and spiritual development project for the Assyrian community in Armenia.
Phase 1 was completed with the grand opening of the Marganita Kindergarten in September 2019, a pre-school educating 200 children. The school building is now a base for youth activities for the Assyrian community in Dvin. Our thanks as always to Qasha Nikademus Yukhanaev for his leadership of this tremendous project.

****TURKEY FOOD DISTRIBUTION AND MEDICAL AID****
In these unprecedented and uncertain times we have seen across the globe the havoc, loneliness and despair that COVID-19 has imposed on humanity, especially those that are the most vulnerable in our society. ACERO’s mission continues to be reaching those very people, a mission that our Turkey Chapter continue to fulfill. In recent weeks our Committee on the ground in Turkey, led by Mr Saad Jibraeel Mansor have once again worked tirelessly to reach displaced persons across the country.
ACERO has provided financial assistance to individuals with chronic illnesses to pay for bills for medication and continuous hospital treatment. In addition to this, food parcels were distributed to dozens of families at a time when curfews imposed on the population make it extremely difficult for them to venture outside their homes for basic supplies. Mr Jibraeel Mansor and his team were able to purchase necessary commodities and deliver them safely to these families.
We are extremely grateful to our team in Turkey for their efforts and are proud to still be reaching those most in need at a time where their already difficult circumstances are made even more burdensome. We continue to pray to our Lord and Saviour that He may heal the world of this disease and bring comfort to us all

****ACERO ASSISTS FAMILIES IN GREECE AMIDST PANDEMIC****
A Report from ACERO Headquarters - London, UK
In recent weeks we have been working with Mr Hanna & Mrs Janet Khoshaba and Mr Kyriakos Batcharas in Greece to assist our families living in the country. With Covid-19 secure measures still in place, mass gatherings are still prohibited.
The outbreak of the virus and subsequent lockdowns have hit an already weakened economy even harder, especially for displaced families. We have even been unable to take too many photos as much of the distributions and visits were done with strict social distancing measures in place.
With over 40 families needing urgent help, this was one of many financial aid distributions ACERO has carried out as part of an ongoing aid programme in Greece. For many years now, ACERO has worked closely with clergy and Assyrian Church of the East Committee members to assist these families who are calling Greece home. This has included the distribution of food parcels, financial aid for general everyday spending and help to buy medicines for chronic illnesses.
Over the last 4 decades, Greece has been a transit destination for Assyrians fleeing the Middle East en route to humanitarian resettlement in Europe, Australia and the U.S. Those who have made it their permanent home face much economic hardship.
We are grateful to all our donors and partners and especially to Hanna, Janet and Kyriakos for their great service to this community. In a letter to ACERO Secretary, Andy Darmoo, they write
'..we appreciate so much your help for the oppressed and difficult situation with utmost care and kindness. God bless you all'.
We too reiterate that in turn, their help and support has been invaluable.
A Report from ACERO - London, UK
We regretfully report on the dire situation facing our families currently displaced in Turkey. The team on the ground, led by the tireless efforts of Mr Saad Jibrail Mansour, have spent the last month attending to the increasing needs of these families, needs that have been worsened by the pandemic.
50 families have contracted the virus, many of which have had to receive hospital treatment as a result. Isolation, national lock downs and curfews have also brought a lack of employment and with it a real struggle to keep up with medical bills, utility bills and rent payments.
Mr Jibrail Mansour's team have traveled the breadth of the country to deliver food parcels and financial aid to almost 300 families that are spread across the vast country, these include, Tokat, Istanbul, Duzce, Afyon, Bolu, Samsun and Nigde to name a few.
It is a constant fight for survival for these families now. We cannot thank Mr Jibrail Mansour and his team enough for this incredible work. They are constantly in contact with these families, all the while having to ensure the safety of all involved.
He has communicated his deepest thanks to ACERO and stated that this campaign has been one of the hardest to date.
We continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in Turkey, for their health and their safety. God help and bless you all.

A Report from ACERO Headquarters - London, UK
ACERO’s new year distribution in our beloved homeland took place through the festive season and January in villages and cities across the north of the country.
As you will read in His Grace Mar Abris Youkhanna’s letter there was a great need for food parcels and financial aid for rent and medical bills for families living within His Grace’s Diocese of Erbil.
ACERO responded by organising aid packages for families across Erbil (Ankawa), Kirkuk, Hawdian, Bidyal and Diana.
With the help of His Grace Mar Abris in Erbil and Rev Fr. Gewargis Yosip in Kirkuk, volunteers distributed hundreds of food parcels and financial aid to those most in need. This comes during a time of great economic hardship made even worse in the face of the pandemic.
We thank our clergy and volunteers for always ensuring no family is left behind.
A Report from ACERO Headquarters - London, UK
It is with the GREATEST JOY we share with you pictures from our Christmas festivities from Armenia. The families living in Arzni and Dvin celebrated at the ACERO Marganita Kindergarten which was completed in October 2019 as part of our wider community building project in Armenia.
The Kindergarten, one of ACEROs biggest projects to date, acts as both an educational institution for these children and a hub for community gatherings such as this one. 328 children aged 3+ were gifted with both Christmas presents and boxes of chocolate.
Our Chairman, His Grace Mar Afram Athneil, Secretary Andy Darmoo and all the members of the ACERO Board of Trustees extend their deepest gratitude to our donors and partners, including the ACCM and Cor-bishop Rev Fr. Gewargis bet-Rasho of St Mary's Parish, Tarzana, for their continued generosity toward our Armenia Appeal. It is with this support that ACERO has been able to provide some relief and happiness in a year that was full of hardship and sorrow for our brothers and sisters in Armenia. We take this opportunity to offer our condolences to all the families of those who lost their lives last year.
Our sincerest thanks go also to Rev Fr. Nikademus Yukhanev and his team of volunteers for their hard work, faith and leadership of this beautiful community. It is with his commitment and passion that our programmes in Armenia have been made possible and have been delivered to the highest standard.
In his letter to ACERO he writes: 'My dear brothers and sisters, Happy New Year.. I pray this year brings happiness and success to all of your families. This was a very hard year for us here in Armenia'
He thanked all of the donors and the ACERO Board by stating 'your hard work and your willingness to help is inexpressible'
God bless you Rabi and all of our beloved community in Armenia. Our Armenia projects continue in the restoration of Mart Maryam Church in Arzni and the building of a Community Centre in Dvin with the Grace of God.
A Report from ACERO Headquarters - London, UK
ACERO's Committee in Dohuk have completed the distribution of financial aid packages and food parcels for the festive period.
As is the case throughout the world during this pandemic, access to essentials has become increasingly difficult. Restrictions on mixing and the need to stay safe (especially for the elderly and vulnerable) are keeping people more and more inside their homes.
Across the north of the country, the team on the ground have provided 124 food parcels to families living both at our housing complex in Dohuk and in the surrounding areas (Dehe, Kani Balafe and Barochke to name a few). Financial aid was also given to 40 families with young children to buy gifts for Christmas.
We at ACERO are constantly working hard to ensure the families living in our complex and the surrounding towns and villages are provided for. This is a task that Dohuk Chapter Manager, Mr Odeesho Dawood, assisted by Mr Jan Benjamin and their team, carry out with care, professionalism and good faith.
On behalf of our Chairman, His Grace Mar Afram Athneil and all the Trustees of the Board, we humbly extend our thanks to them and all our volunteers across the world, the work they have done over this extremely difficult period has been truly incredible. They have gone above and beyond their duties to ensure families continue to receive the help they need and for that we are so very grateful.
May God bless you all and bring you health, safety and happiness for this New Year 2021.
A Report from ACERO Headquarters - London, UK
ACERO's Christmas aid distributions continue throughout December with recent aid reaching families in Greece.
With hundreds of people spread across various areas of the country, no social security access, a weak economy and extremely stringent Government imposed Covid-19 restrictions, life for displaced families is and has been very difficult for many years.
ACERO has throughout this period of instability in the country worked closely with Assyrian Church of the East Parish Priest Rev Fr. Shmaiel Tamras to ensure aid has always reached Assyrian Christian families living there.
The Assyrian Church of the East Committee President, Mr Hanna Khoshaba and his team on the ground have made these distributions possible and for that we are very grateful. For Christmas this year, Mr Khoshaba and his team have distributed financial aid to 36 families already residing in the country as well as others who have recently arrived from the middle east.
Both Rev Fr. Shmaiel and Mr Khoshaba have expressed their gratitude to ACERO (letter attached) and have explained the dire economic situation which people are currently facing.
May God bless all our teams across the world working tirelessly to ensure we do everything we can to reach every person that needs our help. A huge thank you as always to our donors without whom none of this would be possible.

A Report from ACERO UK Headquarters - London, UK
Our Christmas aid programme continues this week in Jordan which is home to 280 displaced families.
Battling Covid restrictions on mass gatherings and striving to keep all our families safe, ACERO's Jordan Chapter, led by Mr Lorance Kanjo, have worked tirelessly to ensure this much needed aid is reaching families spread across 6 cities in Jordan.
Mr Kanjo and 7 other volunteers managed to deliver aid packages to families living in North Marka, North Hashimy, Ashrafeia, Jabal Husain, Madaba and Fuheis. You will see in his letter attached that it has been an extremely difficult but necessary task for families facing extreme hardship.
We are so very grateful to our committee in Jordan, our donors and to the Trustees; His Grace Mar Afram Athneil, His Grace Mar Paulus Benjamin, His Grace Mar Awa Royel, Archdeacon William Toma, Deacon Dadway Daniel, Mr Freydoun Benjamin and Secretary Mr Andy Darmoo for their continued work in supporting displaced families across the Middle East.
ACERO's annual Christmas aid distributions will continue throughout December with us updating you on distributions from various villages across Northern Iraq in the coming weeks.
We continue to pray that the world is cleansed of this pandemic. We praise God for all His blessings and His mercies. God Bless you all.
12/11/2020
The Coronavirus pandemic has made aid work extremely difficult with the restrictions on travel, gatherings and the implementation of social distancing. It has also however, intensified peoples need for help, making our work more important than ever.
The number of families that need our help in Turkey has both risen and is more dispersed across this vast country, with some individuals also sadly contracting the virus (within approx. 20 families).
Our team on the ground, headed by Mr Saad Jibrail, have been working very hard to reach as many families as possible, whilst keeping all involved safe. We are very pleased to report that in preparation for this blessed season of the nativity of our Lord, we have been able to do just that.
Mr Jibrail has communicated the following:
‘we asked for your help for these families in several provinces of Turkey in these difficult times…they needed you after the interruption of their work which they depended on daily. We have many chronic disease cases and many individuals who have disabilities who are unable to visit the doctor for their regular check ups and to collect medication. In my name and on behalf of the families in Turkey, we send this letter of thanks and appreciation to ACERO donors and Executive Committee, with special thanks to Secretary, Mr Andy Darmoo for his constant communication and support. We have, with this help, managed to reach most of these families despite the long distances between where they are all living and the travel restrictions. We have purchased necessary medication and distributed financial aid for each family’
The Cities / Provinces Saad and his team have covered are;
TOKAT
ISTANBUL
DUZCE
AFYON
BOLU
CORUM
SAKARYA
KAYSERI
NIGDE
SAMSUN
Our sincerest thanks to Saad, Oneil, Alan, Ninus, Beneel, Hormiz, Ameel and Ninus for all their incredible, selfless and generous efforts. We are so grateful to all our teams across the Middle East, to our donors and all our supporters without whom none of our work would be possible.
This distribution marks the first in ACERO's annual Christmas campaign. In the coming weeks we will be updating the page with each distribution made across the Middle East. God Bless you all.

**TURKEY FOOD PARCELS - COVID-19 VULNERABLE FAMILIES***
A Report from ACERO Headquarters - London, UK
The outbreak of Covid-19 has forced the most vulnerable in society to stay at home to stay safe.
In Turkey these restrictions also included curfews and bank closures. This means the most vulnerable have very little access to essential services. For those who are displaced from their homeland, this is made even more difficult.
ACEROs Turkey Chapter have been working hard to ensure the most vulnerable displaced families living across the country have these essential supplies by distributing food parcels to them.
Mr Saad Jibrael Mansour, ACEROs Turkey Chapter representative, who organised the distributions, writes:
‘To all respected members of the charitable organization (acero), we have sent you these pictures and we have distributed food aid to families who are going through difficult circumstances in Turkey. We ask all the members of your charitable organization to continue helping us. Our families go through the most difficult conditions. With thanks and appreciation.’
On behalf of ACERO Secretary, Andy Darmoo and all the Trustees, we extend our deepest gratitude to Saad and his team; O’nel Kameel Odesho, Ameel Issac Inwiya, Alen Issac, Inwiya Binil, Kameel Odesho Ninos Diriawish, Nistoris Ninos and Dankha Talya.

***DOHUK DISTRIBUTION - IMMEDIATE RESPONSE TO CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK***
A Report from ACERO Haadquarters - London, UK
In these difficult and unprecedented times, we at ACERO are acutely aware of the need to ensure the most vulnerable people are not left behind. Most of the individuals we assist are vulnerable; the elderly, those with chronic illnesses, and now people who are unemployed due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prior to the curfew/restrictions imposed by the government, our Iraq Chapter Manager, Mr Odisho Dawood and the Committee there, acted quickly to provide for families with vulnerable members.
A report from Dohuk Chapter member, Mr Jan Toma states: "..we wish to thank ACERO very much for arranging distribution of food parcels for 120 of the most needy families in the Dohuk district and the surrounding villages like Dehe and Kane Bilafe to name a few. These families needed these commodities because of the difficult times which the whole world is going through because of the spread of Coronavirus. We distributed these prior to Curfew imposed by the authorities, there are many people who are in need because their work has stopped because of the virus. The families are most grateful to ACERO for helping in these difficult times. We also assisted families who needed to pay for their medical bills, and hospital expenses".
ACERO Secretary Andy Darmoo and all the Trustees extend their gratitude to Odisho, Jan and the Committee in Dohuk for the speed at which they delivered these supplies at the very beginning of the outbreak.
We pray that our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ cleanses the world of this most frightening disease. We pray for all those who have lost loved ones and those who are fighting this disease in hospitals all over the world.
*****JORDAN DISTRIBUTION & ROGATION OF THE NINEVITES PRAYERS - 255 FAMILIES****
A Report from ACERO Headquarters - London, UK
ACERO's Jordan Chapter, under the stewardship of Committee Manager, Lorance Kanjou, have recently distributed aid to 255 displaced families currently living in the capital, Amman. In addition to these families, we have a large number of individuals who have chronic illnesses which require daily medication, the cost of which is extremely high.
Jordan has one of the largest concentration of displaced Assyrians across the Middle East, a number that has risen once again as a result of the recent events that unfolded in Iraq.
The need for aid here is extremely high. As such, ACERO has carried out many distributions and has established a dedicated Committee to attend to these needs. Financial aid goes towards utilities and general expenses.
The faithful living here also recently celebrated Holy Eucharist in commemoration of the Rogation of the Ninevites.
We are grateful to all ACERO volunteers and donors, without whom none of our work would be possible.
Please continue to support and donate.

******MART MARYAM CHURCH (BUILT IN 1830) RESTORATION PROJECT IN ARMENIA********
A Report from ACERO Headquarters - Kent, UK
It is with profound joy we announce that Mart Maryam restoration project has commenced in assyrian village Arzni in Armenia. This church was built in 1830 when assyrians immigrated from Urmia district of Iran. The frist that assyrians did, they built a church which was dedicated to Holy Virgin. From the time that church was built it was not restored. It is in a very disastrous and emergency state, so it is even dangerous to enter the church because the church can collapse, fall apart every second due to walls are distancing and separating and other reasons.
Thanks God, now ACERO starts its second great project in Armenia. We thank all people who donated for restoration of Mart Maryam church. But of course we need some more financial support to finish this project.
Please join this worthwhile project by donating at
***** ACERO opens Kindergarten Marganita****

KERALA, INDIA****
A Report from ACERO Headquarters - London, UK.
'The month of August, 2018 will forever be etched in the memories of every Malayali...when an entire State was ravaged by flood..tens of thousands of people lost their homes'
ACERO is honoured to announce that it has made a donation towards this incredible project. In November, 2018, their Graces Mar Yohannan Yoseph and and Mar Augin Kuriakose, Bishops of India and the UAE under the leadership of His Beatitude Mar Aprem Mookan, announced that with the help of local government, the Parish of Marth Mariam Big Church in Thrissur has acquired land in the village of Venginissery to build a complex of ten homes for families who lost theirs in the devastating flood of 2018. The project will be part of His Beatitudes Golden Jubilee Housing Scheme for the Homeless.
With the continuous guidance and encouragement of our spiritual Father His Holiness Mar Gewargis III Sliwa, ACERO has been supporting the post-flood humanitarian effort in Kerala. We are grateful to our USA Chapter Chairman His Grace Mar Paulus Benjamin for working closely with His Beatitude Mar Aprem to ensure ACERO assists in any rebuilding projects. His Grace, along with Cor-Bishop Rev Fr. Gewargis Bet Rasho, is currently visiting India on the auspicious occasion of the proclamation of the Sainthood of H.G Mar Abimalek Timateous, Metropolitan of Malabar and India (1878-1945) and has simultaneously visited the site of the new housing complex.
We take this opportunity to thank His Holiness, His Beatitude and Their Graces for their humble and most revered leadership and all those who have brought this project to fruition.
A Report from ACERO Headquarters - London, UK - April 18th, 2019
As we approach Easter, ACERO has launched its campaign for the holy period in northern Iraq with financial aid, food parcels and medical assistance distributed to 140 families in the Dohuk district, including the villages of Dehe and Kani Balavi.
This campaign will extend to Turkey and Jordan in the coming days where hundreds of Assyrian Christian families, many including members with severe medical conditions, await re-settlement outside the Middle East. In recent times, ACERO has experienced a dramatic increase in requests from those with serious medical conditions.
While the need is great, the donations of our generous supporters around the world mean we are continuing our work --- thank you! Please make your Easter contribution at www.theacero.org/donate and leave a note directing the donation to your preferred country. U.S. residents can donate at this site which is a U.S. based ACERO website “https://www.theacero.us”
Thanks and appreciation especially to ACERO's Dohuk Chapter and the many workers, drivers, tradesmen and volunteers who give their time supporting our Dohuk Housing Project for the displaced and for leading the on-the-ground distributions throughout the region.
His Grace Mar Paulus gives appreciation for the tireless efforts of the many Chicago-based volunteers that serve ACERO. Below are some that attended at St. Sergius Church on 2/23/2019.
Our final report from the festive period is from the activities and distributions held at our Dohuk Housing Complex. The Complex continues to be a hub of activity for both its residents and our people living in the surrounding villages.
Between November and December, a total of 105 families received two lots of food parcel distributions thanks to the generous donations of local Evangelical societies and our partners at Barnabas Fund. In addition to this, we thank Pastor Sameer Hanna of the United Christian Church who has also committed to supporting our families living at the Complex. With this help we have been able to provide utilities and food parcels as well as covering transport costs for our children to travel to and from school.
To celebrate the birth of our Lord and to welcome a new year of hope, ACERO also hosted a children’s Christmas party at the Complex where the children had fun taking part in games and activities, received a visit from Santa and also got a gift each.
We thank ALL our partners, supporters, donors and friends for making this all possible. Your generosity has meant that we were able to bring the magic and spirit of this blessed time of year to hundreds of our people across the Middle East. God bless you all.

I am writing to inform you that Acero has embarked on a major project in Jordan. Please see the following article which is also posted on the Acero Facebook page:
A huge thank you from Jordan - Aid and Medicine for 400+ families (Barnabas Fund / AFA aided project)****
A Report from ACERO Headquarters - London, UK
ACERO's Jordan chapter has embarked upon its festive campaign to help the hundreds of families currently residing there. Jordan continues to house a high concentration of displaced persons, totaling almost 400 families. Our thanks go to Mr Lorance Kazakia and his ACERO committee in Jordan, who were able to distribute aid to 342 families and medication to 177 people with minor and chronic illnesses, we also thank the Very Rev'd Cor Bishop Augin Dawood for his assistance and for visiting many families. Living conditions in Jordan are becoming increasingly more difficult and as such the need for assistance is great. ACERO is therefore working very hard to ensure this blessed season is a peaceful and joyful one for all our people who have been forced out of their homes. In the coming days, children's parties, aid distributions and festivities will be taking place in Jordan and across the Middle East, a Christmas party is planned for our people in Amman.
The projects in Jordan have been made possible by the generosity of our partners at Barnabas Fund and the kind donation of the Assyrian Foundation of America (AFA). We thank these organisations for continually supporting us to make it all possible.
We ask that our donors continue to support our work and in the spirit of this blessed time of year please visit our donate page and make a small contribution so that Christmas can be enjoyed by all those that need it most.

Our deepest gratitude goes to our partners at Barnabas Fund for sponsoring a Nationwide aid programme in Iraq.
ACERO’s Dohuk Chapter members have been working tirelessly over the last few months to complete the first phase of the programme in Dohuk and its neighboring towns and villages.
Over 120 families have received food parcels, financial contributions towards medical bills and contributions to funeral costs. The most vulnerable displaced persons, including widows, children and people with disabilities have also received additional aid to help towards medication and utility bills.
In additiona to this, we would like to thank ACERO supporter Mrs Nahren Rogers of London, UK for organising a shipment of clothing and children’s toys to be delivered to ACEROs Dohuk Housing Complex. These were distributed amongst residents and other displaced persons in the area.
This is an ongoing programme and we will keep all our supporters updated on its progress. We are sincerely grateful to all our supporters, partners and donors, without which this work would not be possible. Please continue to support, like and share.
A Report from ACERO Headquarters – London, UK
We are delighted to report that we have been able to once again help our community in Jordan. Approximately 370 families currently seeking refuge there were given financial assistance. In addition to this, 170 people with a variety of illnesses, some of which are terminal, were also given aid to go towards medicines and medical bills.
ACERO’s role in assisting displaced persons continues to be essential in Jordan given the concentration of people currently residing there. In Amman the number of displaced families has risen dramatically.
Our sincerest thanks go once again to the Assyrian Christian Compassion Ministry (ACCM) of San Jose for their contribution to this project and also to the parishioners of Mar Gewargis Church, Chicago, who gathered together to raise funds for this cause.
Our projects in Jordan are co-ordinated by the Very Rev’d Cor-bishop Awgin Dawood along with our Jordan Chapter committee. They work tirelessly to ensure each and every displaced person receives the help they need, especially for the sick. Referring to the people of Jordan, Rev. Awgin writes:
‘The people here have given us a bright picture of strong faith, although their circumstances are difficult but they still were able to participate in huge numbers in the ceremonies we held in Church. For their role in reserving their faith, it's our role to show them that the Church hasn't forgotten about them, and that ACERO was created to embrace like these people. We have all the appreciation to whom is helping through ACERO’
We echo his words in thanking all our partners and supporters for their generosity, loyalty and love for our organisation and our people throughout the world.

ACERO’s Dohuk Chapter has brought the joyous spirit of Easter to some 60 children at our Dohuk Housing Complex in Northern Iraq. With the help and attendance of parishioners and youth from the local Assyrian Church of the East Parish of Mar Narsai, a party was held to celebrate this most Holy Feast of the Resurrection.
The children took part in team games, singing and were gifted with traditional Easter sweets as well as a present for each of them.
We would like to extend our thanks to all Committee members on the ground for their tireless work, most of which is to bring smiles to the faces of our blessed and beloved children, who have at such a young age shown incredible resilience in the face of adversity.
Committee members have reported that ‘a wonderful time was had by all the children as was shown in the smiles on their faces. We thank ACERO for their continued support to help us arrange such celebrations’
Our work in Northern Iraq is ongoing and our residents in the Complex are well cared for as a result of our supporter’s generosity, please continue to support us to keep this and other aid projects going throughout the Middle East.

ACERO has not and will not forget the hundreds of needy families currently residing in Jordan. Over the last few months we have reached almost 400 families in countries where the concentration of refugees is at its highest.
Throughout the bitterly cold winter and with living conditions deteriorating, each family was gifted with financial aid to go towards paying bills, heating, groceries and medication.
Our sincerest thanks goes to The Very Rev’d Cor-Bishop Awgin Hurmiz Dawood and Rev’d Fr. Esha and the committee of the Mission of Mart Shmoni who successfully distributed aid to 367 families currently residing in Jordan.
The Very Rev’d Cor-Bishop Awgin has told us:
” … again you were able to draw a smile on the face of our refugees in Jordan…….and send a clear message that ‘WE HAVEN’T FORGOTTEN YOU’ … you were able to help the neediest and the sick ….for this we thank you and pray God will always use you for the glory of His name and give you the courage and wisdom to fulfil His will”.
This project was made possible through the generosity of ACERO project partner, the Assyrian Christian Compassion Ministry (ACCM) of San Jose, USA. ACERO extends its deepest appreciation to the Directors and supporters of the ACCM for their generosity and concern for displaced Assyrian refugees in Jordan and also for their help for refugees in Turkey.

Residents at the ACERO Dohuk Housing Complex have recently benefitted from vital aid for utilities and for the promotion of education with thanks to the generosity of brother Vladimir Moghadassi and all at the Assyrian Evangelical Church of San Jose (AECSJ).
With the generous donation of the AECSJ, members of our Dohuk Chapter were able to supply vital fuel for utilities in the premises. In an area where power outages are extremely common, this basic commodity has been absolutely essential in improving the living conditions of the residents at the complex.
This contribution by the AECSJ has also covered the travel expenses of the 30 school children residing in the complex who will now be able to travel to and from school by bus.
We extend our sincerest gratitude to all at the AECSJ for this act of generosity which has helped so many of our people who need it.
We would also like to thank our donors and supporters in the UK for yet again organising a large shipment of much needed warm clothing and children’s clothing to be sent to our complex for distribution. These were a welcomed arrival and all that received them expressed the gratitude especially
Food and help distribution in Diana on our recent visit to Iraq.
Kindest regards,

“Thank you is just not enough to express our gratitude towards you” – ACERO aid recipient
ACERO’s ongoing aid programme throughout Turkey continues to be implemented actively. Our Turkey Chapter representative, Christina Sanhareeb has reported in the last month that the Chapter team is inundated with requests for help as the winter came very early in Turkey. This has meant a rise (sometimes double) in utility bills. She also reported that most of the refugees in Turkey are unable to find work and sustain themselves.
She has reported that 40 families, 15 of which have handicapped members or members with illnesses that require medication, are in desperate need of help. The number of refugees in Turkey continues to rise with an additional 10 families having arrived in the region of Tokat alone in the last couple of months.
Writing to ACERO’s UK headquarters, the Turkey Chapter reports:
“From the bottom of my heart I thank everyone who is involved to help our people and we really appreciate it. Thank you is just not enough to express our gratitude towards you. People are so grateful to ACERO since it’s helping us for a year and 7 months. No words can describe how I feel about this campaign and all the other campaigns that ACERO provided. One of the refugees told me that when he will get to America, he will work and donate for ACERO to help other refugees. It is a great joy to hear that from a needy person! Thank you ACERO for being with us all the way long. We are most grateful to ACCM also, thank you very much.”
Our recent campaign saw the following numbers assisted in the following regions:
– 14 family in Tokat
– 2 families in Afyon
– 2 families in Mardin
– 4 families in Jankiri
– 1 family in Yozgat
– 1 family in Kirrikale
– 8 families in Istanbul
– 1 family in Nideh
– 3 families in Duzja
Christina is now settled in California and we would like to express our deepest gratitude for her dedicated and tireless service to ACERO in Turkey in which she reached hundreds of people across nearly 10 regions across the country all while she was herself a refugee. People like Christina are true heros!
On behalf of ACERO we wish Christina and her family the very best of luck for the future and may God bless her always.

A Report from ACERO Headquarters – England, United Kingdom
“ACERO has provided terrific support to refugees who are frustrated and tired of the miserable situation in Turkey.” – ACERO Turkey Chapter Member
ACERO has implemented a Christmas/New Year aid campaign supporting 26 Assyrian Christian families (244 individuals) living in 9 Turkish cities. The campaign prioritised families with disabled members requiring ongoing care in Istanbul, Düzce, Afyon, Amasya, Tokat, Nide, Çankırı, Kırıkkale and Yozgat.
This project was made possible through the generosity of ACERO project partner, the Assyrian Christian Compassion Ministry (ACCM) of California, USA. ACCM’s deep concern for the suffering of Assyrians in the Middle East has been overwhelming. ACERO offers its deepest appreciation to ACCM’s supporters and its devoted Board members, Rima Davejan, Michael Davejan, Amir Amiri and Maryam Pirayo.
Writing to us, an ACERO Turkey Chapter member notes:
“I’d like to express our sincere appreciation to the only helpful organisation that has supported us refugees in need. Many of us are facing hardships and the unknown here. I do not know where I should start. There are a lot of negatives compared to the positives; i.e. rent, hospitals, transportation, bills and so on. The most painful cases are those of handicapped children who are obliged to live in such circumstances. Many do not have any medical help and old people need medicine every day.”
The post Aid Campaign in Turkey – 244 Individuals appeared first on ACERO.
In per-dawn attacks on Monday residents of the 35 contiguous Assyrian villages along the Khabur river in north-eastern Syria awoke to burning churches, deserted homes and martyred soldiers as extremists swept through the majority Assyrian Christian area on a destructive rampage.
To date, more than 200 Assyrians have been kidnapped with recent reports placing the number even higher. These include a large number of women, children and the elderly.
In the days and hours following the assaults, in excess of 3000 people fled their homes in panic, fear and despair and are now displaced and spread across the major neighboring regions of Hassaka and Qamishli. Many hundreds of these people took refuge in St Mary’s Cathedral of the Assyrian Church of the East in Hassaka.
His Grace Mar Afram Athneil, Bishop of Syria and Chairman of ACERO is at the forefront of the crisis responding directly to the widespread need in the area. Immediately upon receipt of reports on the ground ACERO Trustees made contact with His Grace and are coordinating on how to best respond to the needs of the affected.
ACERO has launched its Syria Appeal and has immediately mobilized its capabilities and resources to significantly increase the volume of aid and relief reaching the area.
ACERO Trustees remain in constant contact with our Chairman and staff, intensely monitoring developments on the ground and the status of those kidnapped.
At present, we have confirmed that there are 1050 Assyrian Christian families who have fled to the relative safety of Hassaka. These people are largely reliant on aid from humanitarian organizations.
There is an immediate need for food, medication, bedding and sanitary items.
Your generosity and support of the Syria Appeal will enable ACERO to continue to respond immediately and appropriately.
The masses impacted by this latest crisis gripping the Assyrian population of Khabur and throughout the Middle East deserve to live with dignity in their ancestral homeland. We are determined to maintain their dignity.
Please continue to pray for those taken hostage that they may return to their families unharmed.
Be assured that every dollar will make a difference in this time of intense need.
